Polish Language University Mentoring Programme
PLUMP is a teaching/mentoring programme aimed at students who study Polish as a foreign language at Glasgow University. It is an official GuPolSoc scheme run in cooperation with the Slavonic Studies section (SSS) of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. Our activities are a combination of 1-to-1 meetings supported, GuPolSoc style, with movie evenings, karaoke sessions, pub quizzes, and the rest of the social programme. We help people studying Polish at Glasgow make the most of their time here and boost their language proficiency, and we offer Polish speakers a chance to promote the language and gain valuable teaching experience, and add a shiny new bullet point to their CV. Plus everyone gets a chance to make new friends! Mentors devote an hour per week to informal classes. We provide a training session to start you off so don't worry if you've never taught before. We had 17 pairs on the programme last year, and received positive feedback from all sides - mentors, students and lecturers - so this year we want to be even better. If you are a fluent Polish speaker (native speaker or advanced learner) and want to help others master the language, don't hesitate to contact us at plump@gupolsoc.org - we need you!
